Product description

Small animal litter for rodents or bird cages, also suitable for parts of terrariums, made from 100% natural hemp, particularly absorbent and odor-binding, low in dust, can be spread very thinly

HUGRO® Hemp Bedding is made from the sponge-like core of the hemp stalk, and has a naturally high absorbency. The natural capillary structures of hemp are entirely unique and ensure that all moisture is soaked up quickly & effectively.

HUGRO® Hemp bedding is a top-rated natural litter, assessed according to EU NF EN13041 quality standards. HUGRO® absorbs 1.5 times more moisture than linen-based litter and twice as much as wood pellets. This also means that the litter is very effective at binding ammonia odours.
The unique processing and thorough cleaning methods that are used in the production of HUGRO® natural litter make it suitable for all small pets. The loose, open structure and pores of the hemp ensure excellent ventilation, putting an end to unpleasant smells caused by rotting and fermenting of bedding. Moisture evaporates whilst the smell stays in the capillaries of the bedding material.
The hemp is cultivated in a controlled environment, without use of pesticides. HUGRO® hemp bedding is biodegradeable and can be composted after use.

HUGRO® hemp litter at a glance:
  • Small animal litter made from 100% natural hemp
  • Very good liquid and odor binding
  • For rodent or bird cages, as well as for parts of terrariums pH neutral, safe for allergy sufferers
  • Very productive, can be sprinkled sparingly
  • Does not stick, dust or smear
  • Pesticide-free cultivation of the hemp plant
  • Biodegradable

Soft
This is really soft bedding and is an amazing deal. I have a robo hamster and his cage has a few climbing elements such as a griftwood log and some higher level platforms that his food and wheel stand on. This bedding is great for placing around those areas to cushion him in case he falls, it gives me peace of mind that he wont hurt himself. That said, this is not good for an entire cage bedding, at least not for ham, as it is too soft to hold burrows and does not encourage digging or burrowing.

Great for mice
Best substrate I’ve ever used! It’s soft, dust extracted, all natural, wonderfully absorbent and even on clean out day, there is virtually no unpleasant odours. My mice love it because it’s light and fun to dig in, holding tunnels well and nice to scamper about on. Good quality bedding is so important for little feet and lungs. I’ve been using this bedding for nearly a year and have never had a bad bag. Highly recommend.

Great bedding
I've used this hemp substrate for Roborovskis, and now for my Syrian hamster too. It smells sweet, is low-dust, absorbent, and is a great price - Buying in bulk makes it even better value. Definitely recommend it to any small pet owners.

Perfect bedding
I have two indoor continental giant house rabbits and over the years have tried different bedding with both guineas and rabbits. This is by far the best absorbs all moisture and eliminates all odour. Great product and nice and soft

Good bedding
This bedding is safe and affordable , nice smell but not overpowering . Not the best for absorbency but it's not bad . It dosent hold tunnels for hamsters and gerbils but is a good bedding for the majority of the cage .

Hemp substrate great
Wow. All these substrates to choose from. Hadn't really checked out reviews to this product whilst reordering a bunch of other Small Animal items here & making up numbers towards free delivery, so took a chance on a natural product as a change and its reasonable price (well, the sawdust I've used for years is natural too but it does make ME sneeze rather more than my rodents). The 4-5 star rating is pretty impressive. People mention the "dust" but personally I haven't really noticed that specifically, because I get just as much dross raising the substrate level in the cages from all the dander, poops, chewed wood/shavings and shredded cardboard/paper that my little beasties chuck around! However in the few weeks I've been using this German hemp product, I've noticed the cumulative odour in their room (yes, they have a room as I have over 50 Rescue gerbils and degus so they can get collectively a bit 'niffy' after a while) has greatly reduced. They are so much fresher, especially in summer heat, than I generally expect after about 3 weeks, so the absorbency must be really great and that's fine by me. Fewer cleanouts! I was a bit concerned as the texture was a lot rougher than sawdust and reminded me of whole wheat grains but they seem happy enough. I'm a convert.

Absolutely fabulous stuff!
I have been using this for my hamsters (Syrian and Robos) for about 2 years now and I absolutely love it, as do they. It is dust free, very absorbent and has a wonderful fresh hay like smell. I shall never go back to wood shavings.

BEST PRODUCT FOR RATS ❤
I love this product, but more importantly, my rats love it! They were sneezing a lot with their other bedding and I was worried they might have been sick. But, I decided to change to this hemp bedding with the hemp floor mat and the sneezing has reduced significantly, so I am going to start buying the hemp nesting material for their house now too! RAT OWNERS: Don't hesitate, buy this you and your rats will love it!! ❤

The Dogs danglies
Tried all the alternative bedding materials from wood shavings through the range to confetti, all were dusty and some odorous, however, the hemp is excellent, all my gerbils and hamsters seem to love it, little or no dust easy to handle and pleasing to the eye, the cages when lined with this appear to produce a more natural and friendly captive environment. I have had no complaints from the residents as yet. Best on the market and a great price too.

Best bedding for hamsters I've seen yet.
My Syrian likes to climb a lot, and falls off the top of her cage quite often. So I needed a substrate softer than the pellet kind to break her fall. But I didn't want to deal with the dust of wood shavings, or the cost of some of the artificial beddings around. This hemp bedding turned out to be fantastic. Softer than pellets, with no dust, and very economic. The 100L bag will last a long time, even with my hamster living in a large enclosure. Very happy and will continue to use in future!

does the job
I brought this because I got scared by stuff on the internet about wood shavings for small animals ( not being good for them) I have since found out that it is just hype by mis-informed people and there is no absolute proof but I will say that my hamster likes this hemp and it does seem to be less dusty than sawdust so if you have a deep cage and want some serious tunneling I would get this hemp again but maybe in a bigger bag

Fantastic!
I used to use carefresh for my hamsters, but i find it way too expensive, so i thought i would give hemp a go, it's brilliant! It's very absorbent and great for hamsters that like to dig, I have never looked back on it!!! :)

Chinese Dwarf Hamster loves it
I use thick layers of this stuff (about 4 inches deep) to line my hamsters' cage floor. She spends much time digging in it which keeps her very occupied! It stays dry and odour-free and lasts absolutely ages!

Excellent product!
I use this for my hedgehogs, it is absorbent, comfortable and they love it! If left to roam in the room, they always end up making a nest for themselves in the big bag of bedding. :)
