Product description

Geometric scratching post wrapped in strong jute rope, with two ferret-shaped cat toys filled with cat powder (Actinidia polygama), for exciting playtimes! Size (L x W x H): 29 x 29 x 48 cm

This jute covered scratching post will fascinate your cat! This space-saving accessory’s sturdy jute wrap is ideal for claw sharpening, whilst the two ferret-shaped soft toys are covered in long hair plush and filled with Silver Vine (Japanese catnip) powder, to entice your cat to play and snuggle.

Silver Vine (Actinidia polygama) – also known as cat powder – is made from the leaves of the non-toxic matatabi plant. This plant is part of the kiwi family and grows in the mountainous regions of Japan and China. It is used in foodstuffs, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products, and it is also well known that it can induce a state of euphoria in cats, in much the same way as catnip and baldrian. Cats typically experience a heightened sense of wellbeing when they come into contact with Silver Vine, as well as reduced inhibitions, leading to them licking, rolling on or rubbing their chins and cheeks against toys that have been filled with even a small amount of the substance. The effects last 5-30 minutes and can be used as a distraction at times of particular stress or unease.

Silver Vine Scratching Post at a glance:

  • Wrapped in durable jute rope: ideal for claw sharpening and climbing
  • 2 ferret-shaped soft toys are attached to the post, both filled with Silver Vine powder (Actinidia polygama) made from leaves from the non-toxic matatabi plant: the powder has a similar effect to catnip and baldrian, giving your cat a feeling of euphoria and playfulness
  • Irresistible aroma that cats experience very intensively: for a heightened sense of wellbeing, lots of fun and uninhibited play
  • Base plate covered in woven material with rubber foam feet
  • Colour: brown
  • Total dimensions (L x W x H): 48 x 29 x 29 cm
  • Materials:
    • Base plate covering: 10% polyester (woven fabric)
    • Scratching post wound with 100% jute rope
    • Toy ferrets (each measuring approx. 26 x 8 x 5cm (L x W x H)): 60% acrylic, 40% polyester (long hair plush)
      • Filling: Silver Vine powder (actinidia polygama) made from Matatabi leaves
Product usage advisory:
Silver vine can have a very stimulating effect on cats. We therefore recommend only giving the toy to your cat for short periods of time, to prevent overstimulation.

Important information: As an added safety measure to support any cat tree as well as to prevent it accidentally tipping, we recommend using a wall bracket to secure the cat tree. You can purchase the wall bracket from zooplus. Please click here for further information: Cat Tree Wall Bracket. Tips for fixing to the wall: Check that the condition of the wall in the desired place is suitable before affixing brackets to the wall. Materials for mounting brackets are not included. We recommend that you purchase screws and wall plugs that are specifically designed to suit your wall from a specialised shop. Use special wall plugs and screws for concrete, hollow walls or plasterboard. Check the stability of the cat tree before allowing your cat to use it. Check the stability regularly and tighten the screws when needed.

Rescue Cat Adores This But beware fur and toppling.
I've had very few cats interested in toys straight out of the box, but we recently decided to try our very exuberant rescue boy with some. He adores this but I am slightly cautious about him ingesting some of the fibres from the 'ferret' as he has taken to really going for them. I hadn't realised there was catnip in them! I saw another owner here mentioning trimming them down and will try this. Might be something to bear in mind also, wider base needed as this does topple. He loves it though!

Brilliant!
We purchased this for our 6 month old kitten, we've had it nearly 3 months and it's still in good condition It did take a week to realise what it was for, but once she sussed it out, she loved it! She's always scratching and stretching herself with it. She loves a good chew on the ferrets too!

Okay
It’s alright for my 8 month old troublemaker but it may not be sturdy enough when he grows. The furry bits may be tricky if your cat is inclined to bite on those and eat the fur. Luckily, mine’s not interested but I did trim those just in case.

Scratch Attack Post
Purchased for our new rescue cat, as he had started to scratch the new sofa. Straight out of the box, easy to build and he was attacking the rats or whatever the creatures are meant to be with careless abandon. We moved the post into the corner, and he uses it daily, comes running through pounces, wraps his front paws around it and attacks it. He does also use it for standard scratching but its become more of a mad half hour toy!

Unstable
My cat really likes this but unfortunately its not stable / sturdy enough for a full grown cat to use. It needs a wider base to make it more stable. As my cat uses his claws on it, his claws pull it over and it topples over onto him. He is currently using it on its side, which works, but of course this isnt how it is meant to be

Great fun
My cat absolutely loves this scratch post. It's well designed and very sturdy not like other scratch post I've had in the past. The 2 ferret shaped cat toys make it so much more interesting than a plain stand alone scratch post, giving my cat more fun. I would definitely recommend this to any cat owners.

Superb
The thing had barely been up for 10 minutes before my three Norwegians came to try it out. They all loved it. The quality seems really good. The small investment was definitely worth it.

Silver Vine Cat Tree
After previous successes with Silver Wine I decided to treat my cats to this cat tree as well. They love sniffing around it and really get their claws stuck in. I definitely recommend this product to anyone who's liked Silver Tree creations before, it will make your cats a happy bunch
