As a central metabolic organ, the kidneys are involved in numerous bodily functions, including regulating blood pressure and acid-base, and detoxification. If kidney damage has occurred, often for reasons that are not clear, affected cats need a diet that is gentle on the kidneys. The Smilla VET Renal dry food is characterised by a moderate content of high-quality beef protein and a reduced phosphorus content. This helps to relieve the still efficient nephrons and while preventing further damage to the kidneys. The appropriate calcium and vitamin D content and potassium citrate help to prevent the formation of oxalate stones in the urinary tract.
